The Importance of Eco-Friendly Clothing

The Importance of Eco-Friendly Clothing - Wanderer's Outpost

Protect the Planet. Shop Sustainable.

Shopping is an activity we all love to do. How often do we think about the environmental ramifications fashion is responsible for? The clothing industry is the second largest polluter in the world! It's time that we come together and start making eco-conscious decisions when selecting items on our next shopping trip.

Wanderer's Outpost recognizes this detrimental problem and offers products from brands that seek to be a part of the solution. Check out a few of the many items we have that help alleviate environmental damage.

We are proud to offer activewear from Girlfriend Collective. All of their clothing is made from recycled plastic bottles and is BPA free.

Their manufacturing facility is also SA8000 Certified. This is a social accountability standard and certificate developed by Social Accountability International (SAI). They created this certification to help and protect workers worldwide by providing a standardized guideline to protect the integrity of workers’ conditions and wages. SA8000 overlaps with Fair Trade certification, but while Fair Trade is predominantly used for farming, SA8000 is a certification used in factory conditions.

Their fabric is dyed with eco-friendly dyes and the wastewater is carefully cleaned and cooled before it is released. (They even donate the dye mud to a local pavement facility where it’s recycled into sidewalks and roads.) The unique dyeing process can result in some irregularities in color, which are not considered damages.

They also make their LITE leggings with ECONYL®, a fiber made from recycled fishing nets and other waste that would otherwise be discarded into oceans and landfills. By using this recycled material, we help clean our oceans, recycle that waste, and cut out the need for raw materials like crude oil, which are traditionally used in the production of nylon.

PrAna's Foundation Scoop Tank is made with 95% TENCELâ„¢ Modal. This material is created from the wood pulp of trees, making it recyclable and earth-friendly!

Natural fibers such as this considerably reduce the damage clothing debris has on our oceans and shorelines every day.

Our new face masks from Lotus and Luna are handcrafted using up-cycled, excess materials that would've been headed to a landfill instead.

Plus, for every mask purchased, Wanderer's Outpost donates 10% to #getusppe to provide frontline workers the protective equipment they definitely need.

Everyone here at Wanderer's Outpost encourages you to join the movement and start protecting the planet. As insignificant as these steps may appear, they prove to have a lasting positive impact on our environment. We are constantly working to expand our selection of eco-friendly clothing & gear and together, we can mitigate these problems one purchase at a time!
